Around the State

Wilmette Village Board has instructed the Manager to secure proposals from at least three consulting engineers for preparing necessary plans and specifications, contract documents and supervision for the construction of an outdoor artificial ice skating rink . . . Evanston will build a new 36 inch pipe line to supply water to Skokie. The population of Skokie has increased from 14,000 in 1950 to 33,000 in 1955. Skokie will build a new 5 million gallon water tower to be supplied by the new main . . . East Moline has recently adopted the municipal utility tax, authorized by the recent session of the Illinois General Assembly.

Bond Issues Approved

Watseka, $375,000 general obligation and $175,000 revenue for sewers and sewage disposal plant . . . Loraine, $20,000 general obligation for water system . . . Trenton, $250,000 general obligation for sewer and water system improvements . . . West Chicago, $269,000 general obligation for improvements to sewer and water system . . . Mechanicsburg, $18,000 bond issue for waterworks system . . . Toledo, $75,000 general obligation for a village sewer system . . . Ottawa, $1,000,000 general obligation issue for sewage disposal plant and intercepting sewer system.

Bond Issue Rejected

East Moline, $300,000 general obligation for construction of a new municipal building.

Appointments

John E. Hartley to be traffic engineer, Springfield. He formerly was assistant traffic engineer for the City of Detroit, Michigan . . . Neil Reidel has been appointed Village Clerk of Lake Villa succeeding Carl W. Reinebach who resigned after 28 years of service because of ill health.

Resignations

John P. Hill, City Clerk, Champaign, resigned to assume duties of supervisor of assessments for Champaign County . . . W. P. Gilbert, Nokomis, because of outside business interests . . . William B. Kerr, Rockford Alderman, who is leaving city to become assistant division manager of Ralph M. Brodie Company, meter manufacturers . . . Frank Tiffany, Chief of Police, Lake Forest, after 31 years of service, effective April 1st, 1956.
