BLOOMINGTON AND JOLIET CITED AS "ALL AMERICA" CITIES FOR 1955

Bloomington and Joliet were among eleven United States' cities, honored as "All America" cities in a poll conducted by the National Municipal League and Look Magazine. They were both cited for effective and energetic action in civic betterment.

Bloomington won the honor primarily for modernizing city facilities, including an expanded school program; a sewer program; expanded water storage and distribution system, and improvements to the police and fire departments. Bloomington has improved and resurfaced many miles of streets; constructed public housing units for 200 families; established a county health unit, and added facilities to the community hospitals.

Joliet was cited specifically for improving the school system and city government. Also for development of a community youth program.

We congratulate both of these fine cities!
