Around the State

As of February 28th, the State Department of Revenue reports that 720 Illinois municipalities have adopted the municipal sales tax. . . . Bloomington is now using the sanitary landfill method of garbage disposal. . . . Greenville voters recently adopted the council-manager plan. . . . Several municipalities have added fire trucks to their departments: Tuscola, a combination pumper and ladder; Hampton, a 500 gallon pumper; Collinsville, a pumper, and Geneseo, a combination 500 gallon pumper and a 40 foot ladder truck. . . . Since the 5c per gallon motor fuel tax went into effect on January 1st, 1953, there has been a six million dollar a year increase in receipts. Collections have been in 1953, $125,931,000; 1954, $131,364,000 and 1955, $137,700,000. Illinois municipalities receive 32% of these revenues. . . . An informal association of mayors and village presidents in Champaign County has been proposed. At a recent meeting in Champaign, thirteen municipalities were represented. Andrew T. Bond Issues Approved

Alto Pass, a $26,000 bond issue for construction of a waterworks plant. . . . Deerfield, $175,000 issue for construction of a village hall. . . . Perry, $27,000 general obligation bonds for construction of a water system.

Resignations

George Schwartz, Round Lake Park, Trustee, moved from the village. . . . Walter F. Kolb, City Attorney, Mt. Carmel, to run for State's Attorney of Wabash County . . . Alvin H. Petitt, City Attorney, Jerseyville and Marion F. Whitten, City Engineer, Jerseyville.

Dwight Shaw, to become Trustee of Fisher. John Suddes, City Attorney, Jerseyville.
