The Union Electric Company building has been purchased by the City of East St. Louis to replace its outdated city hall. Occupancy is expected by early 1957. Total purchase price including the main building, garage facilities and necessary alterations is $275,000. Based on earlier negotiations, the city will pay 20% immediately and the remainder in 60 monthly payments. . . . Moline's uniformed services are to be increased by eight firemen and eight policemen. . . . Spraying equipment to fight the dutch elm tree disease has been recently purchased by Jacksonville, Moline, East Moline, Winnetka, Evanston, Kenilworth, Wilmette, Glencoe, Highland Park, Lake Forest and Princeton; other communities conducting elm tree census include Ottawa, Freeport and DePue. . . . Ninety officials representing 17 municipalities attended the recent meeting of the Northwest Municipal Association held in Geneseo.
