Murphysboro voters have recently approved a general obligation bond issue in the amount of not to exceed $130,000 for the construction of a new City Hall. This bond issue will be retired completely by use of the municipal sales tax. The building will be constructed of brick, concrete and steel, and follow the modern trend in one story architecture. There will be a basement, containing a nicely furnished and spacious meeting room; boiler room; storage area; vault and jail cells. The main floor contains the business offices and auditorium, seating 150 persons; fire and police departments. The dormitory for the firemen will be located just over the main floor fire truck space, and designed to fully accommodate four firemen. The entire building is designed for and embodies certain built-in features that will permit future expansion at nominal expense as the city grows.

The City of Chicago Heights has recently acquired the old Bloom Township High School building, and has remodeled it into a modern city hall. The property covers one square block, and has two large parking lots. It was purchased from parking meter funds. The building, in addition to the municipal offices, houses the police and fire departments. For youth activities, it contains two gymnasiums, a roller rink and a youth center.

The Village of Skokie has recently broken ground for the construction of a new police building. Another milestone in the phenomenal growth of the Village was reached June 25th when Mayor George D. Wilson turned over the first shovel of dirt in the erection of the new police building. Present at this auspicious occasion were Village Trustees Miles Babb, William Krewer, Ambrose Reiter, Francis Pat Seul and Fred Wakefield; Village Clerk Jack Seeley, Chief of Police William Griffin, Village Prosecutor William Hennessy and scores of village officials and civic leaders. The building will cost $329,000 plus $10,000 for air conditioning. The construction of this building will be financed entirely from revenues received from the municipal sales tax. The modern and efficiently designed building will house the interrogation rooms, municipal offices, squad room for policemen, 84 lockers, locker room, showers, jail cells, and radio room on the first floor, while the detective bureau, court room, judges' chambers, additional municipal offices and press room will be on the second floor. In the basement will be a pistol range, gun repair shop, parking meter repair shop, all-purpose room and storage area.
