CITY HALL GOSSIP

The Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police recently held a meeting in Rockton in preparation for the annual International Association of Chiefs of Police convention which will he held in Chicago, September 9-13. . . . The city of Highland Park has honored 26 long time employees. Mayor Robert S. Cushman and City Manager Ralph Snyder presented the awards to the employees whose longevity adds up to 606 years of municipal service. . . . State Auditor Lloyd Morey has announced the appointment of John H. Glenn of Beardstown as a public member of the municipal advisory audit board. . . . the City Council of Ottawa has voted to purchase the old LaSalle County fair grounds for $40,000. The 16 acre tract will he used for recreational purposes. . . . Rock Island City Manager Connie Bodine will instruct a course in Principles of Public Administration at Augustana College this fall. . . . Springfield commissioner George Oliver has released an engineering report which recommends that the city water and light department increase its rates 7 1/2% to meet current operations and future expansion needs....

Bond Issues Approved

Brocton, $37,000 in general obligation for construction of a water system. . . . Winthrop Harbor, $70,000 in general obligation for additions to the city hall . . . Belleville, a $1,000,000 building program was approved by the voters recently, $825,000 for a new city hall and $175,000 for a central fire station. . . .Lake Bluff, $90,000 in revenue bonds to drill a well. . . .Christopher, $55,000 in general obligation for street improvements. . . . Rock City, $48,500 in general obligation to finance a water system. . . . Lombard, voters have approved a $590,000 park improvement bond issue. . . . Winfield, $95,000 to improve the village water system. Effingham, $613,000 to finance a new sewer system . . . Taylorville, voters have approved $700,000 in general obligation bonds to help pay for construction of a $1,290,000 lake. . . . Springfield, $2,900,000 in revenue bonds for improvements to the municipal electrical system.

Bond Issues Defeated

Waterloo, voters defeated a proposal to issue $250,000 in bonds for construction of recreational facilities including a swimming pool.

West Chicago, Edward H. Miller to be superintendent of public works. . . . Homer, Dale Wakefield to be a member of the village board. . . . Lombard, appointed to the village board, Donald Berbaum and Russell Crawford . . . Milan, trustee Eugene Campbell to become president of the village board and James Hughes as trustee. . . . Macomb, in a special election, Truston Stewart was again elected alderman. . . . Waukegan, Captain John R. Brake has been appointed chief of police.
