CITY HALL GOSSIP

East Moline's utility tax receipts for the second quarter are $19,258. This compares to receipts of $20,948.00 for the first quarter . . . Evanston has recently opened two new off-street parking lots . . . Evanston also reports that during the first eight months of 1956, a record total of 5,690 trees have been trimmed, utilizing three contractors and regular city crews. In addition, 642 trees have been planted and 310 diseased or dead trees have been removed . . . Urbana joins the list of Illinois municipalities adopting the uniform traffic ticket . . . the City of Galva recently purchased for $10,500.00 a building to be used as a city garage . . . Danville has purchased a parking garage in the downtown area at a cost of $55, 000.00. . . Mayor Cecil Smith of Vandalia announces the completion of a street improvement program. Under this program 105 blocks of city streets and 76 alleys have been improved. Total cost of the improvements, about $30,000.00, was financed by sales tax revenue . . . the Villages of Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect and Palatine have formed a new Northwestern Suburban Water Commission to counter the declining water levels of inland suburbs.

Bond Issues Approved

Paxton voters have approved the issuance of $140,000 in general obligation bonds for a new city well . . . Watseka, $385,000 in revenue bonds to complete the sewage treatment plant and interceptor sewers . . . Lincoln, a $375,000 sewer revenue issue . . . Franklin Park, residents approved a $600,000 revenue issue to build a 3 million gallon water reservoir . . . Alto Pass, $26,000 in water works bonds . . . East Moline, voters approved $300,000 in waterworks revenue bonds, to augment a previous $1,050,000 issue.

Resignations

Gayle T. Martin, City Manager of Maywood. Mr. Martin was recently appointed City Manager at Manhattan Beach, Calif. Mr. Martin has also served as Manager at Deerfield . . . Harold Lyons as superintendent of streets in Canton . . . K. M. Yates as Village Clerk, Waynesville . . . Clarence D. Witt as Village Clerk in Sidney. Mr. Witt has served as Village Clerk for 21 years . . . Samuel J. Vigor, Trustee, Monsanto.

Appointments

Lincoln Hockaday has been appointed city planner by the City Planning Commission of East St. Louis. Mr. Hockaday has been associated in the past with the St. Louis Plan Commission and the Boston City Plan Commission . . . Robert Clark to be a member of the Forrest Village board . . . Evans Richards to be Village Clerk at Waynesville . . . F. Harris Rowe, Jacksonville Alderman, has been appointed a member of the Municipal Audit Advisory Board by State Auditor Lloyd Morey. He succeeds Mayor John Kimbark of Evanston who recently resigned.

Deaths

Tony Wilson Burress, member of the Wyanet Town Council . . . Alexander H. Marshall, former Chicago Attorney. Mr. Marshall had served as Attorney for the village of Glencoe for twenty years.
