CLEMENT W. HULIT

C. W. Hulit, a long time civic leader and member of the Canton Park District for 30 years died on November 13, 1969. He first began his service to the Canton Park District in 1939 when he was elected to the board of commissioners to fill an unexpired term of two years. In 1943 he was elected vice president and was elected president in 1945. He served in that capacity until May, 1968 when he was made president emeritus.

Elected to the Executive Committee of the Illinois Association of Park Districts in 1939, he served six years and then for two years as vice president. He was president for one term and was presented an honorary life membership. He was made a charter member of the Past Presidents Club of the Association.

Mr. Hulit had attended the University of Illinois and Brown Business College in Peoria and had worked for two and a half years as assistant to the chemist of the McCormick Harvester of Chicago, which is now International Harvester Company. For 24 years, Hulit worked as chief clerk and assistant to the board of directors of that company and as auditor. In 1926 he became part owner and secretary-treasurer until 1934.

Mr. Hulit served ten years on the board of trustees of the First Congregational Church and was deacon of the church from 1955 to 1958 and again from 1959 to 1962.

Born October 31, 1878 in Canton, he was the son of Frank W. and Carrie V. Hulit. He married Margaret Perle Wason on November 20, 1902 in Buckheart Township. She survives along with one daughter, Catherine Hulit.
