Department of Conservation Names New Leadership

The Department of Conservation has made three administrative changes recently at their top level positions. Henry N. Barkhausen was named Director, Ted Kavadas was appointed Executive Assistant to the Director, and Ronald D. Johnson was appointed Superintendent of Parks and Memorials, the position Kavadas held before his new assignment.

A businessman and sportsman, Barkhausen was appointed by Governor Richard B.Ogilvie last October.

A resident of Lake Forest, he is a Yale University graduate and was a Navy cargo ship captain during World War II.

He is the author of the book "Great Lakes Sailing Ships", and is president of the Midwest Lime Company which has its quarry in Batesville, Arkansas.

Ted Kavadas is a graduate of Indiana University with a B. S. Degree in parks and recreation administration.

Before joining the Department of Conservation he served for 10 years with the Glenview Park District. From 1964 to 1969 his position was Director of Recreation.

Ted is active in professional circles and is presently serving as President-Elect of the Illinois Park & Recreation Society.

Ronald D. Johnson joined the staff on February 15th after serving as Director of the Elmhurst Park District for the past 10 years.

Johnson is a native of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and holds a B. S. Degree from the University of Wisconsin.

A Navy veteran, he has also done graduate work at the University of Illinois and Indiana University and is certified as a landscaper.

Ron is a past president of the Illinois Park & Recreation Society and has been quite active in professional, civic, and community organizations.
