"Duke" REGNIER RETIRED

Duke Regnier
E. H. Regnier

Professor Emeritus E. H. "Duke" Regnier, Specialist in Program Leadership for the Office of Recreation and Park Resources (O.R.P.R.) of the Department of Recreation and Park Administration, has retired.

Actually, Professor Regnier, who has been a University of Illinois faculty member since 1935, officially retired last July.

His retirement does not signify the on-set of inactivity, though. Professor Regnier said that in addition to maintaining a relatively close liaison with O.R.P.R. staff members, he also plans to take on various special assignments.

Professor Regnier came to the University of Illinois in 1935 as a member of the staff of the Rural Sociology Extension. In 1951, he was named head of the newly created Rural Recreation Extension Section of the Cooperative Extension Service. He continued in that post until the merger in 1969 of the Field Service of the Department of Recreation and Park Administration and the Rural Recreation Section of the College of Agriculture's Cooperative Extension Service.

At that time, Professor Regnier assumed the duties of the Specialist in Program Leadership in the newly formed Office of Recreation and Park Resources.

During his long period of service, Professor Regnier has exhibited exceptional skill in his work and provided the type of personal leadership and dedication so vitally necessary to the rural recreation extension program. He created a positive image and encouraged individuals to seek his assistance. As a result, many people in Illinois have bene-fitted from his leadership through a wide variety of recreational and educational activities.

"Duke" was honored with a recognition dinner at the University of Illinois earlier in the year and was presented an award from the Illinois Park and Recreation Society for his outstanding contribution to the field of Parks and Recreation in Illinois.
