N.R.P.A. HAS NEW HOME

THE National Recreation and Park Association has moved its Washington, D.C., headquarters to Arlington, Virginia. Announcing the departure from 1700 Pennsylvania Avenue at a December meeting of the Association's staff, Executive Director Dwight F. Rettie explained that the primary reason for the move was the dollar savings that could be realized.

Over the new lease's 10-year contract period, Rettie anticipated that the Association will save in excess of $30,000 a year over present rental costs.

Located about 10 minutes from downtown Washington, the new building lies across the Potomac River in the Rosslyn area of Arlington and is readily accessible to all governmental offices. It is closer to Dulles and National Airports than was the former headquarters building. Three new motel-hotels, several good restaurants, good public transportation, and an excellent taxi service make this an ideal location.

The new location will also provide the Association with more room for staff expansion and, consequently, service to members.

The new mailing address will be: National Recreation and Park Association, 10th floor, 1601 N. Kent, Arlington, Virginia 22209.

It is with regret and a deep sense of sorrow that we inform you that Tom J. Montgomery, 67, passed away December 12, 1971.

He was born April 26, 1904, in Chicago to the parents of Howard J. and Ethel Huggins Montgomery.

He was a graduate of the University of Michigan (1926) and received his degree in English and journalism. Prior to his retirement on July 14, 1971 he held the position of vice president and secretary of Ross Llewellyn, Inc., an advertising company in Chicago.

TO STUDY ABROAD

Twenty-five University of Illinois recreation students left at the end of January for Edinburgh, Scotland, for a semester's study abroad.

Studies will include regular University courses, taught by a University of Illinois instructor, courses taught by instructors from the University of Edinburgh, orientation to the country, and eight weeks of field work in an approved recreation agency.

In addition to studies there will be skiing trips, youth hostelling, and other outdoor activities. There will also be plenty of time for travel.

Students will live in guest houses in Edinburgh for the first six weeks, and then will split up and be assigned different recreation agencies throughout the British Isles.

The program was offered last spring, and 25 U of I students attended class in London at different Universities and colleges. This year Scotland was selected.

The program will be offered again next fall and spring.
