LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Gentlemen:

A recent letter published in the Illinois Parks and Recreation magazine written by a commissioner from Elk Grove has promted me to also ask where we are going.

For the last six years in the General Assembly I have attempted to actively involve myself in a constructive program for the association in Illinois. Prior to this as a park commissioner and board President I spent six years actively directing the growth of the West-Chester Park District. The sum total of these twelve years has convinced me that in order that our Park systems and associations grow, we must have a full time lobbiest to work with the General Assembly and association members.

Our needs are such that a program, finalized and familiar to all our members be drafted and submitted prior to the convening of the new General Assembly. That this be part of a master 6 year plan, formulated by input from all areas of the state. We must have someone in attendance constantly when the General Assembly is in session to council those handling our legislation and advising others that have specific problems and proposals relative to Park legislation. Someone to constantly retain a good rapport with legislative members so we can move our legislation with dispatch.

Gentlemen, we stand at the apex of stagnation with the opportunity to build for future generations. If true concern is the prime mover, I ask your immediate and serious consideration for my comments. I would welcome an opportunity to address the board relative to these and other proposals.

Awaiting your reply,

Ronald K. Hoffmann
State Representative
Sixth District
