Candidate's fiscal views
Dear Editors: The statement that I made on your "Election 1976 Questionnaire" actually made no reference at all to the funding of the resource equalizer formula. I wrote on that questionnaire, as an alternative to a tax increase: "I ... would call for reduction in spending not only in welfare but in education, transportation, and general governmental operational expenses."

I believe that I'm not the only legislator who would recognize that some excess can be cut in every agency's operational and administrative budget. If these areas are made to "tighten their belts," then I would, in fact, support a full funding program for the resource equalizer formula.

Rep. Thomas W. Ewing
