whats up with STUDENTS

by Dave Henderson President, IPRA Students

This past year was a good year for the Student Section when you consider that a job mart booklet was compiled for the students, the Student Conference was a success, the money-making projects have exceeded our projected goal of $600.00, a historian album was started and updated to the present, and for the first time, year-end reports were required from all the officers and committee chairpersons.

All of the above is now a part of the historian's records. We must look to the coming year to do some things that were not accomplished this past year. We should revise our present constitution by October 1 to comply with the change of IPRS to IPRA this past fall. All of our committees should be at peak operation by mid-September rather than November or December. The money-making projects should be initiated during the summer or-at least by the NRPA Congress in October. The Student Section information brochure that was started this year will be completed and sent to all park and recreation students in Illinois. A slide presentation on the Student Section will be developed and displayed at the state, regional, and national conferences and also be shown at every Illinois college or university that has a park and recreation curriculum to promote IPRA membership.

As your new president, I feel that the goals we have set for the coming year are not insurmountable providing every student does his or her share of the work. We extend the invitation to all students to become active in an organization that represents all of us.

The people that you will be working with as professionals in the future are many of the same people that share your world as a student today.

Get involved and meet these people for your own sake. For information on the Student Section, contact your campus council representatives or myself.
