JOHN CURRAN has been appointed to the position of Director of Parks and Recreation for the Hickory Hills Park District.

John is a graduate of Western Illinois University in Recreation and Park Administration.

John has worked as Program Director for Hickory Hills since December. Before that, he did his internship with the St. Charles Park District, and has worked as Director of Recreation for Zion National Park.

MARIANNE FRICKE has been named supervisor of special recreation programs for physically and/or mentally disabled persons, children through senior citizens, for the Evanston Recreation Department.

A graduate of the University of Illinois where she received a B.S. degree in Park Administration and Recreation with emphasis in therapeutic recreation, Ms. Fricke will supervise all of the City's therapeutic recreation activities for disabled populations.

She comes to her new responsibilities following three and one-half years of professional experience in the field. For the past two years she has directed recreational activities in a 300-bed nursing home. During this time she also served as a consultant on activities for a retirement home. Earlier she headed activities at a 240-bed nursing home and coordinated a summer program for 600 homebound multiple schlcrosis people living throughout the Chicago area. As an undergraduate she had experience as a social worker for physically disabled adults in England (Teeside, England).

JOHN SCHUMACHER, graduate of the University of Illinois, Champaign in May 1977 recently accepted a position as district recreation supervisor for the Montgomery County Recreation and Parks Department, Dayton, Ohio. He did his internship at the Elmhurst Park District and the Office of Recreation and Park Resources. John is the recipient of the Charles K. Brightbill Undergraduate Award. This award is presented yearly to outstanding students and alumni who are honored for personality, leadership, scholarship and character. Ann Bartalola also received the Undergraduate Award and the Alumni Award was presented to John Williams, Sunnyvale, California.

KENNETH J. SCHULTZ joined the staff of the City of Elgin, Illinois Department of Public Property and Recreation this spring as Recreation Director.

Previously, Schultz was Superintendent of Recreation for the Skokie Park District where he worked since 1969.

Prior to that, Schultz held recreation positions in the City of Port Washington, Wise.; and the City of Rochester, N. Y.

Schultz's degrees include an AA from Wright Junior College, Chicago; a B.S. in Physical Education from Southern Illinois University, Carbon-dale; and an M.S. in Recreation Administration, also from SIU.

The Westmont Park District announces the appointment of RONALD GUNTER to the position of Director of Recreation.

Mr. Gunter received his associate degree in Recreation Leadership at Parkland College, in Champaign, Illinois. While at Parkland College, he did his field instruction with the Champaign Park District. He also played varsity basketball at Parkland College and was captain of the college team.

In 1976, Ron received his Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation from George Williams College, Downers Grove, Illinois. While at George Williams College, Ron played varsity basketball and was elected captain from 1972-74. In 1974-75 he was the outstanding student in the Leisure Education and Recreation Administration Department. In 1975-76 Ron was in the 1975-76 edition of Who's Who among students in American Universities and Colleges and graduated Summa Cum Laude from George Williams College.

Mr. Gunter completed his course work in June 1977 for a Master of Science degree in Urban Parks and Recreation Administration. He has had extensive experience as Director of intramual Sports in College and Park Maintenance and Supervision at the Steger Recreation Department, Steger, Illinois.

DR. ROBERT H. McCOLLUM, Associate Professor and for three years the Recreation Program Area Leader at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, will assume responsibility for the degree program at Illinois State University on June 20.

Dr. McCollum is the former Director of the Department of Recreation at the University of Pennsylvania. For six years he was Supervisor of Graduate Studies in Health, Physical Education and Recreation at Trenton (N.J.) State College. Active in professional organizations and community activities, last year he was the recipient of the Volunteer Award from the Virginia Recreation and Park Society. Coauthor of one book and several monographs, he has published fifty articles in professional and religious periodicals.

Illinois State University was founded

Illinois Parks and Recreation 34 September/October, 1977

in 1857, and is the oldest and one of the largest public universities in Illinois. It is located in the twin cities of Bloomington-Normal, midway between Chicago and St. Louis. There are over 21,000 students enrolled in 50 academic programs. The tree-shaped campus covers 711 acres and includes 54 major buildings.

The Recreation and Park Administration Program is one of four academic majors in the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, with over 250 undergraduate majors.

BILL STEVENSON has been appointed Recreation Supervisor for the Norridge Park District. Bill is a graduate from Concordia Teachers College where he received his bachelor degree in Physical Education and Drivers Education, and a minor in Business. Bill has a good background in teaching through his Student and Substitute teaching. Bill has a sports background with coaching experience in football, track, and wrestling. He will be continuing our present programs and look for new program ideas to better meet our Community needs.

Charles E. Hoscheit has recently been appointed to the position of Director of Parks & Recreation for the Fox River Valley Pleasure Driveway & Park District. Before coming to Aurora he was the Director at Lockport Township Park District where he helped to receive a 1976 Gold Medal Award for excellence in Park & Recreation Management.

He has a Bachelor of Science from Illinois State University and a Master's Degree in Parks & Recreation Administration from the University of Illinois.

FRANCIS HEINLEIN, Chief of Recreation Therapy for North Chicago Veterans Hospital, received a special award from the University of Illinois for outstanding and meritorious service to therapeutic recreation in Illinois.

Francis has served the field of therapeutic recreation for over 40 years and was active in the formation of the Illinois Recreation Association (now known as IPRA) and the Illinois Therapeutic Recreation Society. He served as president and chairman of many committees. His efforts display a true sense of professionalism within Illinois.

NRPA Selects Regional Director For Our Area

Theodore B. Flickinger has just been selected to become the NRPA Regional Director for the NRPA/1PRA Joint offices in the Great Lakes Region.

Dr. Flickinger will be headquartered at the Chicago suburb of Des Plaines, and will assume his duties in late August.

In announcing the selection, John H. Davis, NRPA Executive Director said, "Dr. Flickinger's credentials are outstanding. One of his major assets is an intangible one—his very positive attitude and unusually splendid ability to work with people. He will be a great asset to NRPA."

Dr. Flickinger will be headquartered at the Chicago suburb of Des Plaines, and will assume his duties in late August.

Dr. Flickinger has a broad based background in the parks and recreation field. His most recent assignment was as Assistant Professor at the School of Natural Resources, Division of Park and Recreation, at Ohio State University, where in addition to teaching, he did leisure counseling and research.

He took his doctorate at Ohio State and wrote his thesis on "Crime and Law Enforcement in Ohio's State Parks." Both his bachelor's (in Recreation and Outdoor Education) and his Master's in Park and Recreation Administration, were taken at Southern Illinois University.

Prior to joining the faculty at Ohio State, Dr. Flickinger was Director of Park and Recreation for the City of Bexley, Ohio, and Director of the West Frankfort Park District in Illinois.

Dr. Flickinger's broad experience encompasses all aspects of management (for which he won the National Gold Medal Award in 1973), teaching, research and planning.

He is the author of numerous articles on all aspects of the leisure movement.

In addition, he has been a noted speaker in the field and is a member of 12 professional, environmental associations serving on executive boards and committees. In 1975, he served as President of the Ohio Park and Recreation Association. In 1974, he was selected to "Who's Who in Ohio" and was also selected to the Gamma Sigma Delta Honorary Fraternity for outstanding scholastic achievement.
