Former Forest Preserve President Honored

At the February meeting of the Kane County Forest Preserve Commission, Erwin Romke, now deceased, of Burlington was honored for his dedicated work on behalf of the Forest Preserve District. Romke fell near his home on November 29, 1977 and passed away December 3, 1977 after contracting pneumonia.

Romke was president of the Commission for seven years and a member of the Commission for ten years.

Accepting the honors on behalf of Mr. Romke, was his wife, Leatha. She was presented with a plaque from Paul Wolff (far left), now president of the Commission from the Forest Preserve District of Kane County. Philip B. Elfstrom (center), Chairman of the County Board, presented Mrs. Romke with the president's gavel. Donald Earley (far right), Vice-President of the Illinois Association of Park Districts, presented to her a Merit Citation from the Association for Romke's outstanding contribution to parks in Illinois.
