MARY JO MARTIN, a graduate from Eastern Illinois University in August, 1979, with a degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies, is presently employed as Assistant Superintendent of Recreation with the Alton Parks and Recreation Commissions. Martin has had many experiences working with the Girl Scouts, special facilities, church youth groups, and camping trips besides her student internships. She was also very involved with the Eastern Illinois Recreation Major's Club.

MR. PETE MERKEL has recently been appointed Director of Parks and Recreation for the city of McHenry. His primary responsibilities will be to coordinate all park and recreation activities within the city and to implement a cooperative program with the local school districts. Previous to this appointment, Merkel was employed by the Waukegan Park District as an Athletic Supervisor. He received his B.S. degree in Recreation and Park Administration from Western Illinois University in 1975.

The Morton Grove Park District Board of Commissioners presented a plaque to JAMES ORPHAN commemorating his 28 years as Park District Attorney at a dinner held in his honor.

MR. JOHN W. NEEDLES was recently honored by IAPD and the Dolton Park Board for his forty years service as Park Commissioner in the Dolton Park District. Mr. Needles was recognized at the banquet at this year's State conference for his dedication and hard work in the park and recreation movement. First elected in 1939, Needles personally helped build two park fieldhouses, cut grass, managed the ball diamonds, and greatly influenced the acquisition of more than 125 acres of park land in every area of Dolton.

MR. JOHN NEMEROVSKI has been appointed to the position of Recreation Leader with the Evanston Recreation Department. His responsibilities will be in the area of senior citizen programming at the Levy Center.

Nemerovski has had previous experience with the Hyde Park Jewish Community Center where he was responsible for all programs for teenagers, and planned all special events. He has also worked in England for the Recreational Development Trust. Nemerovski graduated from the University of Michigan in 1972.

MR. JOHN W. WILSON has recently assumed the position of Director of Parks and Recreation for the Chicago Ridge Park District. He was previously employed by the city of Danville, Illinois, where his duties included site supervision, grant writing and site planning.

Wilson is a graduate of Illinois State University and is presently completing work on a Master's Degree in Park and Recreation Administration.

MR. FRANCIS HEINLEN, left, has been named the 1979 Waukegan Exchangite of the Year at a recent ceremony. During Heinlen's career he served for 31 years as Chief of Recreation Therapy for the North Chicago Medical VA Center. Other awards which he received during his years of service are the Distinguished Award presented by the National Therapeutic Recreation Society in 1969, and in 1977 the Professional Citation for the Illinois Park and Recreation Association as well as the outstanding Career Award from the Chief Medical Director in Washington, D.C.

MR. DAN BEISER has accepted a position as Superintendent of Recreation for the Lisle Park District. Prior to this he served as Assistant Superintendent of Recreation with the Alton Parks & Recreation Commission. He was instrumental in improving the golf program, setting up special events, and advising senior citizens. Beiser graduated from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville with a Recreation degree in January, 1978. He and his wife, Terry, now reside in Naperville.

MR. DELBERT SIEBERT has been appointed Superintendent of Parks for the Fox Valley Park District in Aurora. Siebert was formerly with the Chicago Park District for 30 years where his major emphasis was in turf management, floriculture and horticulture. He has been an active member in the Midwest Institute of Park Executives, Great Lakes Park Training Institute and IPRA. Siebert has attended Chicago State College and the University of Illinois.

MS. SUSAN K. SPANGLER was recently appointed to the position of Recreation Supervisor for the Palos Heights Parks and Recreation Department. Prior to her appointment, Spangler was Director of Evening Activities for Camp Danbee in Peru, Massachusetts. She received her degree from Slippery Rock State College with an emphasis in Community Leisure Services.
