Selected State Reports

State Documents

At Issue: Highlights of the 1980 Legislative Session, House Republican Staff Report (July 1980), 115pp. and Legislative Issues: 81st General Assembly, House Democratic Staff (August 1980), 232pp.

Together these two reports present a comprehensive picture of the legislative issues and events of the 1979-80 session. Each is divided into over a dozen major topics which are then subdivided into specific issue areas. The House Democratic report has a complete list of House and Senate bills and the pages on which they are discussed, as well as an index.

Official Illinois Courts Commission Reports, published by the Legal Division, Pantagraph Printing, Bloomington, Ill. 61701 (1980) 181pp.

The Illinois Courts Commission was created in 1962 as a means of disciplining judicial officers. Today this commission continues to hold these adjudicatory powers but hears only those cases brought to it by the Judicial Inquiry Board, which was established in the 1970 Constitution. This volume summarizes the cases heard by the commission between 1967 and mid-1980.

Outdoor Recreation in Illinois: 1980-1981 Action Program, Department of Conservation (November 1980), 92pp.

This is the second Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan and includes seven major recreation and conservation issues: natural heritage, wildlife habitat, trails, water quality and recreation, energy conservation, urban recreation, and public awareness. It also lists accomplishments for 1979-80, describes the status of the planning program, and gives recommendations for federal action.

Other Reports

The State of the Child, by Mark Testa and Fred Wulczyn for the Children's Policy Research Project, School of Social Service Administration, University of Chicago, 969 East 60th Street, Chicago 60637 (1980), 111pp.

A sizable number of Illinois youth are alienated from themselves, from the law, and from those institutions designed to affect them most closely: family, school and work. This sobering conclusion is but one of many fascinating pieces of information contained in this unique and comprehensive picture of the situation of children in Illinois. The report is divided into eight sections: demographics, family life, poverty, health, violence, alienation and mastery skills; it contains 62 tables and has a fairly complete index.

Illinois General Assembly Publications Index 1970-80, prepared by Nancy P. Johnson, University of Illinois Law Library and printed under sponsorship of Government Documents Round-table of the Illinois Library Association, 34pp.

The almost 200 items included in this index are first organized alphabetically in one of three sections: House, Joint and Senate. They are then indexed by subject and, where possible, by bill resolution, act, and revised statute citations. Most of the items listed may be obtained from lllinois document depositories.

Directory of Illinois Oral History Resources, compiled and edited by Kathryn Wrigley, for Oral History Office, Sangamon State University (1981), 54 pp.

Over 150 existing oral history projects, programs or collections and 22 others in some stage of planning are listed in this directory. Descriptions of each are arranged alphabetically by the name of the city; there are also indexes by county, repository, and subject. An extensive list of institutions, organizations and individuals offering workshops in oral history are included as well.

Items listed under State Documents have been received by the Documents Unit, Illinois State Library, Springfield, and are usually available from public libraries in the state through interlibrary loan.         Anna J. Merritt
