Like its two predecessors (published in 1977 and 1979), this booklet offers information to the general public about positions on advisory and policymaking agencies, boards, and commissions. The number of members, by whom they are appointed, and the salary for each position are also given.

Directory of State Services for Handicapped People, Illinois Department of Rehabilitation Services (May 1982), 61 pp.

Damage due to flooding is extensive in some hits of Illinois. This booklet gives tips on how to prepare for a flood and explains what to do both during and after a flood. It also recommends to those who know that their homes may be hit by a flood to get flood insurance, to take certain inexpensive flood proofing measures, and to develop an evacuation plan and emergency checklist.

Other reports

An Examination of the Illinois Legislative Post-Audit Function, by David W. Olien and published by the Office of the Auditor General (March 1982), 43 pp.

In response to the "Hodge Scandal" in the late 1950s, the General Assembly established a Department of Audits. The 1970 Illinois Constitution provides for an auditor general, and in 1973 the General Assembly approved the State Auditing Act. The resulting system for legislative oversight is regarded as extremely effective, according to a number of generally accepted criteria.

Occupational Disease in Illinois: Who's Paying the Bills? prepared by Chicago Area Committee on Occupational Safety and Health, 32 pp. mimeo. Available from CACOSH, 542 S. Dearborn St., Rm. 502, Chicago 60605; $5 per copy

Between 10,000 and 26,000 new cases of occupational illness occur in Illinois each year. Most of those who receive compensation do so through the federal Social Security Disability system rather than the Illinois Industrial Commission. The reason may be that the IIC process is very lengthy and places the burden of proof on the worker. Many victims end up bearing the major portion of the costs themselves.

School Communications Catalogue/1982, Illinois Association of School Boards, 1209 South Fifth Street, Springfield 62703 (1982), 71 pp. $3

School districts hoping to pass a referendum or simply concerned about their image in the local community can frequently benefit from outside assistance, but this is not always easy to locate. This catalogue lists 179 resources that can help with communications problems or improve public relations programs.

Law-Related Education Newsletter, published by the Illinois State Bar Association Committee on Law-Related Education for the Public, Illinois Bar Center, Springfield 62701.

Volume 1, number 1 of the LRE News is dated April 1982; its editors plan to publish it four times a year and, at least initially, to distribute it free of charge. Topics to be covered include: programs that teach young people about law, the legal process and our legal system; upcoming workshops and institutes; teaching strategies; and noteworthy current events.

Items listed under State Documents have been received by the Documents Unit, Illinois State Library, Springfield, and are usually available from public libraries in the state through inter-library loan.
