Post schedule of date, time and place of Park District regular meetings for the year—mail copies to news media (or can be done at beginning of fiscal year) Chapter 102 Section 42.02

January 15, 1982

Last date for Board to adopt an item it has initiated for referendum for March 16, 1982 election (NOTE: there are special time periods which must be met for "back door" referendum items which are in addition to the above dates.) Chapter 46 Section 28-2

January 20, 1982

Last date for Park District to file referendum items with County Clerk or Board of Election Commissioners for March 16, 1982 election.

January 29, 1982

Last date for filing annual Certificate of Status of Real Estate to continue exemption of park property from real estate taxes for the taxable year 1981. Chapter 120 Section 500

MARCH, 1982 March 16, 1982

General primary election and referenda—(no park commissioner elections in even year).

APRIL, 1982

April 15, 1982

Suggested date to prepare budget and appropriation ordinance in tentative form and place on file for public inspection.

MAY, 1982 May 3, 1982

Begin annual audit at close of fiscal year—must complete and file with Comptroller within six months of close of fiscal year (new requirement that districts also file financial reports [P.A. 82-421]—special provisions for districts appropriating less than $200,000.00 Chapter 85 Section 701 et seq

May 4, 1982

Send notice to Illinois Dept. of Labor requesting determination of current prevailing rate of wages for district's area.

Suggested date to publish notice of public hearing on budget and appropriation ordinance (must be published at least seven days prior to hearing). Chapter 105 Section 4-4

May 20, 1982

Suggested date for:

1. holding hearing on budget and appropriation ordinance.

2. enacting budget and appropriation ordinance after hearing and during Board meeting.

(NOTE: there is no longer a requirement that the budget and appropriation ordinance be published. Section 4-5 of the Park Code has been repealed.) chapter 105 Section 4-4

3. Board to determine funds to be raised by the tax levy ordinance. Truth in Taxation Act (P.A. 82-102)

May 31, 1982

Last date for publishing annual statement of receipts and disbursements and filing copy with County Clerk for districts on a May 1 -April 30 fiscal year—statute requires publication and filing within 30 days of close of fiscal year Chapter 102 Section 5

JUNE, 1982

June 10, 1982

Suggested date to publish notice of hearing if the Park District proposed levy is greater than 105% of last year's extension or estimated extension—must publish not less than seven nor more than 14 days prior to hearing—June 10 publication date assumes a hearing date of June 17 to June 24, 1982—be sure to check special publication requirements found in the statute.

Suggested date and procedure, not mandated by statute, for an annual review of documents to determine which records can be destroyed. Permission for destruction must be obtained from the Local Records Commission.

Suggested date to:

1. verify that, for real estate acquired in 1982, appropriate petitions have been filed to exempt from real estate taxes. Chapter 120 Section 500.18

2. prepare and file with supervisor of assessments the annual Certificate of Status of Exempt Property for 1982.

1. make petitions available to candidates for Park Board for April 5, 1983 election—petitions must be filed not more than 78 nor less than 71 days prior to election (January 17-24,1983)

2. advise news media of Board positions to be filled at election, candidate filing requirements, and availability of petitions at Park Office (not required by statute)

December 30, 1982

Last date tor filing bond ordinances with County Clerk in order to receive extensions of taxes for bond repayment In 1983.
