The Western DuPage Special Recreation Association announces the appointment of Peggy Curtis and Debbie McClaran as Program Specialists. Ms. Curtis is a 1980 graduate of the University of Illinois in Therapeutic Recreation. She completed her internship at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital. Ms. McClaran is a 1981 graduate of the same school in therapeutic recreation. She also completed her internship at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital. Western DuPage Special Recreation Association is an extension of the Glen Ellyn, Naperville, West Chicago and Wheaton Park Districts.

Western DuPage Special Recreation Association announces the appointment of Sue Furey to the position of Superintendent of Recreation. Ms. Furey had previously served as a program supervisor for W.D.S.R.A. She is active in the Special Recreation Associations of Northern Illinois (SRANI) serving as secretary. Ms. Furey's hobbies include canning, water sports, and helping her husband Tim cope with life.

Preston Schellbach, Executive Director of the Macon County Conservation District, Decatur, Illinois, was recently elected Chairman of the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission and re-elected President of the Illinois Association of Conservation Districts. He was appointed to the Nature Preserves Commission by Governor Thompson in 1978, and has served with the I.A.C.D. since its inception ten years ago.

Thompson A. Dyke of Thompson Dyke & Associates, Ltd. announced the appointment of Stanford Joseph Eby as a new associate. Mr. Eby graduated from Iowa State University in 1974 with a degree in landscape architecture. His experience includes site planning, park and recreational planning, planting design and landscape construction. He has worked on many projects in the Chicago area. Mr. Eby is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The Peoria Park District has won the Second Award in the Energy Management Action National Achievement Awards. The E.M.A. Achievement Awards are sponsored by the Electrification Council, a non-profit industry organization dedicated to education in the efficient management of energy.

The Achievement Award recognizes the Peoria Park District's Energy Management Plan which was developed and implemented this year in an attempt to reduce operating costs at Park District facilities.

Peg Connolly, Ph.D. has recently been appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Leisure at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Connolly has taken the position of Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in the Office of Recreation and Park Resources. Dr. Connolly has held the position of lecturer in the Department where she instructs and advises in the therapeutic recreation curriculum.

In 1972, Connolly was awarded a R.A. degree in Psychology and Sociology from Southeast Missouri State University. Connolly was employed with the American National Red Cross, Service to Military Hospitals, as a Hospital Recreation Worker at hospitals in Texas and Illinois. In 1975, Dr. Connolly was assigned as Coordinator of Recreation and Education for the Vietnamese Refugee evacuation on Guam. Upon return from Guam, she was promoted to Hospital Recreation Supervisor at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Connolly completed her Masters degree in Therapeutic Recreation in 1977 at the University of Illinois and went on to complete her Ph.D. in 1981. Her research has been in the area of evaluation models and procedures for therapeutic recreation services, as well as program development. Dr. Connolly is currently serving on the NTRS Board of Directors, representing the Great Lakes Region and she has been very active in state and national professional activities.

Jeff Walker, a recent graduate of Western Illinois University, is currently the Recreation Supervisor for the Streamwood Park District. This past summer he completed a 12-week intern program at the Glencoe Park-Recreation District. For the last nine years Jeff has worked for the Buffalo Grove and Wheeling Park Districts doing everything from grounds maintenance to serving as administrative assistant. Jeff received the 1980-81 Suburban Park and Recreation Association Student Scholarship. While at Western, Jeff was involved with many student organizations, including Vice-President of the W.I.U. Recreation Society. Presently, Jeff is the co-chairman for public relations for S.P.R.A.
