Salary Survey Ready For Conference

Many thanks to those professionals who took the time to complete the 82 Salary Survey. We hope to have the printed results available at the Annual Conference. Our target is at least a 75% return and based on the number of current responses we expect to meet our goal. IPRA members will be able to purchase copies at the member rate. The fringe benefit portion of the survey will be compiled at a later date.

IPRA To Open Gift Shoppe

A new project — the GIFT SHOPPE — has been developed by the Fund Raising Committee. IPRA members' first exposure to the Shoppe will be during the Annual Conference at the associations' booth. The purpose of the project is threefold: (1) To make a small profit for IPRA; (2) To promote the leisure movement and the association; (3) To provide members with holiday gift suggestions for their staff. Lapel pins, jogging shorts, coffee mugs, and a few other items will be available. Just think of the possibilities — hundreds of joggers in the parks carrying the message of leisure or all recreation personnel greeted every morning by a friendly coffee mug saying "Leisure: A Good Investment."

Board Approves Move To National Professional Certification

In September, the Board approved the Admissions and Standards Committees' proposal to submit a revised certification plan to the National Certification Board who will be meeting at the NRPA Congress. If accepted, the changes will go before the IPRA membership in 1983.

We will do our best to educate the members as to the effect this will have on their current registration. The first in a series of informational sessions on "Certification and how it will affect you" will take place at the Annual Conference on Friday, November 19, 4:45 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. We hope you will take the time to become informed.

Annual Meeting Planned

While on the subject of the conference, to be held November 18-21 at the Hyatt Regency, O'Hare, Rosemont, we hope all of you will attend our major educational event of the year. Over 90 educational sessions are offered in the two day period. We have all kinds of special activities planned for the exhibit area which will host over 110 booths displaying a myriad of new services and equipment.

Foundations Meeting

November 20th, 10:45 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Pan Am Room, Hyatt Regency O'Hare — Park, Forest Preserve and Conservation Districts Foundation meeting. This is a meeting that you or a representative of your agency will want to attend if you have a Foundation to support your park, forest preserve or conservation district. The IAPD has initiated a new membership classification and special educational programs and services will be offered in 1983 for those agencies who have or plan to have a Foundation.

Workers' Compensation

At the September 11th, 1982 meeting the IAPD Board of Directors unanimously passed a resolution recognizing the Alexander & Alexander Company as the Association's representative for group Workers' Compensation. The IAPD is pleased to announce this new member service ... the IAPD Workers' Compensation Insurance Program. See A. & A. advertisement on page 39.

For some time the Board of Directors has been concerned with the high cost of Workers' Compensation insurance for its member districts. An in-depth search to find a solution resulted in the decision to sponsor a Group Insurance Program. Of the programs reviewed, the plan

presented by Alexander & Alexander, Inc. was found to be superior. It presents both immediate and long term advantages.

Alexander & Alexander is a major insurance broker and is well qualified to solicit and administer our program. In early November it will mail a formal announcement, along with details, of the Program. Also, A&A will be in Booth 88 at our Annual State Conference to talk with you personally.

Professional Development School Has Openings

Attention, administrators and supervisors of personnel. Don't forget to mark January 23-26, 1983 on your calendars. There are still openings in the Administration and Finance Professional Development School on the Contemporary Wage and Salary Program. This special seminar should provide a step by step program from job evaluation to performance appraisal and salary administration.

1982 Comes To A Close

The 1982 Board and Committee Chairs end their terms at the annual meeting in November. I personally wish to thank them and the 300 volunteers we currently have serving on committees. IPRA has grown and developed into a first class organization and without their support it would not have been possible. I especially want to thank Robin Hall, IPRA President, for the many hours he has spent in helping to improve the association. For a more comprehensive report, the 1982 Annual Report will be mailed the end of November.

Stop by to see us during the conference at the IPRA booth or in conference headquarters.

From IAPD (cont.)

The pricing of the IAPD program is most competitive. Each district will be subject to its own published Experience Modification, then various discounts and credits will be applied. Installment payments are available at no interest charge.

In addition to lower going-in premiums, each insured district with a premium in excess of $1,500 is eligible for an individual dividend based on its own loss experience. Further, when the Program reaches a certain size, a second dividend plan will apply based on loss experience of the entire group.

This IAPD Program will also provide two vital services: competent claims management and effective loss control. Competent claims management will reduce loss dollars paid out, and get people back on the job promptly. Regional safety seminars will be held quarterly to establish sound loss control measures. Quarterly loss reports will assist in analyzing accident patterns.

In summary, the Program will present these benefits:

• Lower going-in premium
• A share in the insurance company profits through two dividend programs
• Better loss control
• More efficient claims handling and settlements
• Uniformly broad coverage
• Accurate loss information for each District We firmly believe this Program provides an important service to our member districts. Savings realized will be reflected at the community level — either by saving money for the taxpayer or using that money to provide additional recreational services — or both!

IAPD Personnel Management Evaluation Seminar

IAPD Personnel Management Evaluation Seminar will be held February 26th, 1983 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Dr. Phillip Brereton will conduct this workshop. Watch "Communicator" newsletter for program details. This is a program for commissioners and directors of the agency.

Commissioner Training Seminar

The Annual IAPD Commissioner Training Seminar will be held May 14, 1983, location to be announced later. Be sure to mark your calendars.
