AT THE end of April, the balance in general funds was $306.93 million. The general funds average daily available balance during April was $250.04 million, and the combined funds end-of-month balance was $469.98 million, a substantial increase from the general funds balance a year ago of $65 million.

Sales, prizes and profits of the Illinois State Lottery doubled in the third quarter of fiscal 1984 compared with the same period last year. Sales totaled $245.5 million, prizes paid to winners, $118 million and profits for the state reached $110.8 million. Currently, lottery profits are the fourth largest state source of revenue.

The final statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in April was 10.0 percent with a total state workforce of 5,579.000. The final seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for February in the state's Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas were: Bloomington-Normal, 7.0 percent; Champaign-Urbana-Rantoul, 6.2 percent; Chicago, 9.0 percent; Davenport-Rock Island-Moline (Illinois sector), 14.5 percent; Decatur, 11.8 percent; Kankakee, 14.2 percent; Peoria, 12.8 percent; Rockford, 10.7 percent; Springfield, 7.6 percent; East St. Louis (Illinois sector), 11.7 percent.

The Chicago area inflation rate dropped to 3.8 percent in the one-year period ending in February, considerably lower than the 6.8 percent rale for the prior one-year period, according to the comptroller.
