MICK POPE, Elmhurst Park District's Director of Parks and Recreation, recently was elected Chairman-Elect of the National Forum of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), an advisory body to the NRPA Board of Trustees. The National Forum assists in the development of increased public understanding and support for the recreation and park movement.

Pope is also a member of the Board of Trustees of NRPA and was chairman of the Great Lakes Regional Council in 1978. He has served as president of the Illinois Park and Recreational Society (IRPS) in 1974 and on numerous IRPS committees.

He also serves on the Illinois Park and Recreation Foundation, serves as president of the College of Applied Life Studies Alumni Board of the University of Illinois where he received his B.S. and M.S. degrees and was recently elected to the American Academy for Parks and Recreation.

CHRIS JACKSON, 'Life. Be In It' Coordinator for the State of Queensland in Australia, recently visited the United States as a guest of the National Recreation and Park Association. The NRPA selected Illinois as a state which has demonstrated a fine program of promoting the 'Life. Be In It' philosophy. Jackson was hosted at a luncheon by Walter C. Johnson, Great Lakes Regional Director. Attendees were members of the Great Lakes Regional Council, Illinois Association of Park Districts and Illinois Park & Recreation Association.

The two associations presented Jackson with a creative composite of many 'Life. Be In It' activities in Illinois. The gift was painted by a local artist under the direction of Arlene Mulder, co-chairman of the Joint Public Awareness Committee. EARLE L. HODGEN has announced his retirement after 20 years of service with the Park District of Highland Park effective January 1, 1984.

Hodgen was Assistant to the Director and previously held the position of Superintendent of Special Facilities for the Park District. An active I.P.R.A. member, he was a member of the Board of Directors for two years. He also served as the first Director of the Special Facitlities Section of I.P.R.A. and on the board for 5 years. His greatest accomplishment was his leadership in the formation of the North Suburban Special Recreation Association, the first of its kind in the United States. It was formed in 1968 to provide recreational programs for handicapped children. Since its founding, 17 additional associations have been formed in Illinois and many more are operating throughout the United States. Hodgen is a graduate of the Indiana University Executive Development School and North Carolina State University.

BRUCE L. ALLISON has joined Thompson, Dyke & Associates, Ltd. as Landscape Architect in charge of land planning, park design and landscape architecture. He has had ex-

perience in master planning, detailed site design, land planning, environmental analysis, recreational facility planning, planting design and landscape construction. Allison is rejoining Tom Dyke, having worked under his direction before obtaining his degree in Landscape Architecture at the University of Illinois in 1975. Allison and his wife, Carolyn, are parents of Katherine, born on November 12, 1983.

STEPHEN C. SCHOLTEN, former Director of Parks and Recreation for the Medinah Park District, has been appointed Director of Parks and Recreation of the Glen Ellyn Park District, effective October 31. Prior to his employment at Medinah, he served as Recreation Program Supervisor for the Elk Grove Park District and prior to that Administrative Assistant at the same park.

Scholten is a graduate of Illinois State University, Normal, with a B.S. degree in recreation and park administration, and also a graduate of Keller Graduate School of Management, Chicago, with an M.B.A. degree.

He is current president of the Suburban Park and Recreation Association and current co-chairman of the IAPD/IPRA Joint Public Awareness Committee.

SUE SCHNEIDER was recently hired as the Cultural Arts Program Coordinator for the Champaign Park District. Her educational background includes a Bachelors Degree from University of Kansas in Art Education and a Masters Degree from Indiana University in Art Administration. She is a member of the Illinois Arts Council, Champaign County Arts & Humanities Council, and The Craft League of Champaign-Urbana.

JIM ENSIGN has recently been hired as a Recreational Supervisor by the Downers Grove Park District. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Illinois' Leisure Studies Department in 1982. While at the U. of I., He received the Charles K.Brightbill Award for scholarship, leadership, personality and character. His professional experiences include work as a tennis and raquetball facility supervisor, softball league coordinator, and swimming pool coordinator at the Wheaton Park District. Ensign will manage two indoor pool operations and will supervise youth and teen programming at Downers Grove.
