Leisure agencies throughout Illinois are reminded that "Life. Be In It." week will be observed June 3-9. Arlene Mulder, Arlington Heights, and Steve Scholten, Glen Ellyn, co-chair of the Joint Public Awareness Committee, urge every agency to participate. Numerous other "Life. Be In It." events are planned for the summer and fall.

"Many of the agencies that took part in the 1983 'Life. Be In It.' movement reported public response to the event was warm and enthusiastic," Mulder said. '"Life. Be In It.' definitely is one of the best concerted public relations efforts ever conceived for leisure agencies," Scholten declared. "It would be a shame if any agency ignores it this year."

To promote "Life. Be In It." week and the summer and fall observances as well, the Public Awareness Committee announces several approaches will be used:

—A "Life. Be In It." calendar brochure similar to last year's will be prepared listing all the events planned by participating agencies. The Department of Commerce and Community Affairs will help fund the production of the brochure. Both the IAPD and the IPRA will send copies of the brochure to each of their members. In addition, the brochure will be mailed to tourism offices throughout Illinois.

—A refrigerator magnet promoting "Life. Be In It." will be produced and sample copies will be mailed to all agencies. The agencies, in turn, are urged to order magnets and distribute them in their communities.

—Christmas cards promoting "Life. Be In It." are planned for production in the late summer. The Committee hopes to sell enough to help pay for its other promotion costs.

—The Committee is cooperating with the NRPA in the promotion and distribution of "Life. Be In It." booklets.

—A "Life. Be In It." poster contest for elementary schools for 1984-85. The Committee plans a pilot project involving six to ten schools this fall and hopes to expand it statewide next year.

—A full-color mug promoting "Life. Be In It." is another Committee project. The mugs can be ordered from the NRPA.

—The Committee plans to promote "Life. Be In It." at an educational session at the 1984 Joint Annual Conference. Efforts are under way to obtain a dynamic speaker.

—Plans are under way to sponsor a rock concert at the 1985 Annual Conference as a fund-raiser.
