BETSY GILLIES, a long time resident of Urbana-Champaign and past chairman of the Urbana Park District Advisory Committee, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Urbana Park District. She replaces Susan Stone, Urbana, who resigned to accept appointment as a member of the Illinois State Commerce Commission.

Mrs. Gillies, who is employed by the Illinois Journal of Mathematics in the University of Illinois Mathematics Department, has been active in park and recreation projects since her appointment to the Urbana Park District's advisory committee in 1970. She has helped plan the development of several park and recreation facilities during the years of her service with the park district.

Duis, chairman of the Board of Regents of the School of Sports Management, introduced Beamon as a luncheon speaker at the School's recent annual seminar at North Carolina State University, sponsor of the seminar. Beamon won the long jump at the Mexico City Olympics in 1968 with a phenomenal leap of 29 feet and 2 1/2 inches, two feet more than the previous record. The record still stands.

DONNA DiCOSOLA, former Superintendent of Recreation of the Memorial Park District of Bellwood, has recently been hired as the Recreational Director for the City of Countryside Recreation Commission. Di-Cosola earned her Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Administration from George Williams College in 1980 and also an Associate of Arts Degree in Recreational Leadership from Triton College in 1978. She is a member of Illinois Park and Recreation Association and also of the National Recreation and Parks Association.

The Publications Committee selected the photo as the best submitted by a professional photographer. Webb, proprietor of Loft Gallery, was unable to attend the 1983 Annual Conference to receive the award.

PENNY DEVIN has been appointed coordinator of the Leisure Studies Program at Triton College, River Grove, Ill. Since 1976, Devin has coordinated the Therapeutic Recreation Department at the college and will now assume the responsibilities for the Recreation Leadership Department as well.

Receiving both her bachelor's and master's degrees in Recreation Administration from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, Devin has had extensive recreation experience in both the public and private sectors. She has been a board member of the Illinois Therapeutic Recreation Section, served as chairperson for the Chicago Metro Therapeutic Recreation Workshop for five years, and is currently a Commissioner for the Glen Ellyn Park District. Devin was the first recipient of the Charles K. Brightbill award at the University of Illinois.
