The IPR is having a photo contest! The covers for several of the magazines next year will be selected from the slides and photographs which you submit. Be sure to read the contest rules in this issue.

A three-part series which can help park and recreation agency directors through the maze of federal and State employment statutes begins in this issue. The series will also provide some practical tips to help employers comply with these laws and develop sound personnel policies.

July is Arts in the Parks Month. The Illinois Association of Park Districts has been working with the Illinois Arts Alliance to advance the arts through leisure programs and legislative initiatives. In her article, Jane Brandley shows how the Illinois Park and Recreation Association's Arts in the Parks Committee is trying to increase the visibility and quality of cultural programs offered by local recreation agencies.

This issue also focuses on park security, outdoor recreation, public swimming pools, an extended time program, a regional softball tournament and Tom Martin's transfer of work from the Peoria Park District to the Governor's Mansion.

We are constantly working to make the IPR a valuable information source for its readers. Please let us know what we can do to make the magazine more helpful to you.

This month's cover photo is from the files of the Illinois Association of Park Districts.
