When I visit the park, I like to . . .

Approximately 3,000 fourth grade students from schools of all sizes and locations in Illinois entered the Illinois Park Districts' 1988 Art Contest.

Their entries provided a pictorial ending for the statement, When I visit the park, I like to. . . .

The cover of this issue reflects the creativity and talent of Kristina Giehl of St. Louis School in Princeton. Judges selected her entry as the first-place winner.

Other winners are:

Elisa Stevenson, Holy Cross Grade School, Mendota, second;
Anthony Marzano, St. Louis School, Princeton, third;
Teofila Gomez, St. Ita School, Chicago, fourth, and
Veronica Seckman, Zeigler-Royalton Elementary, Zeigler, fifth.

The runners up are Jeremy Guyton, N.O. Nelson School, Edwardsville; Tara Babington, Lakeview School, Grayslake; Edee Shafer, Hawthorne School, Chicago; Sarah DiCaro, Ledgewood School, Roscoe, and Michelle Welch, St. Timothy School, Chicago.

All contestants received an honorable mention ribbon for their participation. The winners and runners-up received a ribbon and a special certificate.

"All of the entries were winners in creativity and in effort," explains Ted Flickinger, executive director, Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD), "and our job of selecting the 10 finalists was very difficult.

"It pleased us to see all of the wonderful ways in which these youngsters enjoy their parks."
