The 1989 Joint Conference Committee is proud and excited to assist the Joint Public Awareness Committee in its kick-off of the new state-wide marketing plan theme,"Take Time For Fun!".Watch for some interesting and surprising "unveilings" during the conference!

The 1989 Illinois Park and Recreation Conference promises many unique and rewarding experiences in a familiar setting. The Hyatt Regency O'Hare will again provide a relaxed and comfortable setting for both the educational and social aspects of the conference.

The new dates, Thursday, January 5 through Saturday, January 7, will provide plenty of opportunities for some new and unique challenges for conference delegates. It is hoped that these challenges will be offset by the Conference Committee's ability to "hold the line" on the cost for delegates to attend the conference.

Choose From Eight Pre-Conference Workshops

The 1989 IPR Conference will kick-off on Thursday, January 5, with eight preconference workshops. Delegates will choose between topics ranging from "Park Planning and Design" to "Marketing Recreation Programs". Please "pull-out" the conference program inserted in this magazine for complete listings and registration information.

'89 Sessions Encompass A Wide Range of Interests


In preparation for "The Great Gallop" on Saturday night at the IPR Conference, Co-chairs Lew Smith and Bill Geihsler ask, "Yes, but can it dance?"

Traditionally, a conference's success has been measured by the quality of the educational opportunities it provided attendees. You can look forward to the '89 IPR Conference excelling in this area. This year's educational sessions will begin on Friday morning. Topics will include varied subjects such as "Leisure Education for Substance Abuse Patients", "Philosophy on Youth Team Sports", "Arts Programming on a Shoestring Budget", "How To Conduct a Public Hearing", "New Trends in Landscape Design", and "Legal/Legislative Updates".

The keynote address at the all-conference luncheon on Friday, January 6, should provide a large measure of inspiration as well as entertainment for all who attend Mr.Douglas Heir, "America's Most Visible Wheelchair Athlete", will be the keynote speaker.

technology, and services for the leisure services industry.

Take Thursday Night For FUN!

Evening social activities have been planned for the 1989 IPR Conference, with the conference theme, "Take Time For Fun!", in mind. Thursday night's conference-opening social will provide participants an opportunity to exercise not only their dancing feet but also their dancing minds. "Name That Tune", Trivia and Lip Syncing Contests will provide fun for everyone.

IAPD Celebrates 50 Years!

Friday night's festivities begin with IAPD's 60th Year Anniversary Party. All present and past commissioners throughout the state are invited to attend. Enjoy complimentary drinks, hors d'oeuvres and good company. IAPD's 60-year history of service will be highlighted — "IAPD Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow". Join the fun and comradery. ...

Casino Night!

Friday evening will present the Rosemont Ballroom transformed into a LasVegas Speakeasy. Gambling and a cash bar will be available to all who wish to join in a rollicking evening of good fun. This event is sponsored by the Illinois Conservation Park and Recreation Foundation. All proceeds from the evening will go to benefit the Student Scholarship Fund and the Illinois Conservation Park and Recreation Foundation.

Y'all C'mon Out Fer Saturday Night!

Saturday evening's entertainment will surely be a night to remember."The Great Gallop", a western-theme party, will invite all delegates to don their best western dress and join in the fun. Food, music, and games will be provided in an authentic western setting. (P.S. WHO will be involved in the shootout at the O.K. Corral?)

Many other exciting and entertaining events are scheduled for the 1989 IPR Conference. So make a point of it — "Take Time For Fun!" —and join your colleagues in January at the Hyatt!
