TRI-STATE APWA CONFERENCE
AND EQUIPMENT SHOW

By WILLIAM L. McCLURE, Publicity Chairman

On May 17, 18 and 19, Public Works Officials from Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Toronto, Canada will be in Bloomington to view the Public Works Equipment display and attend seminars focused on improving the efficiency of Public Works personnel and departments.

The Tri-State APWA Conference and Equipment Show will be held at the New Jumers Castle Lodge in Bloomington. This year's Conference is hosted by the Illinois Chapter with assistance from the Iowa and Chicago Metro Chapters.

One feature of the program will be a panel discussion on how Diamond Star Auto Plant was induced to locate in the Bloomington-Normal area, and what impact it has had on the area. Panelists will include some of the original members of the team who put this package together. Representatives of the Illinois Department of Commerce & Community Affairs, the Illinois Department of Transportation, Diamond Star, the Town of Normal and the City of Bloomington will be on the panel.

Plans are being made for registrants to tour the Diamond Star Auto Plant and view the state-of-the-art Robotics Assembly Plant in production.

Some of the talks and group discussions will cover such items as "Listening Skills", "Street Maintenance", "Environmental Property Assessments", "Public Liability in Signing", "Management Skills", "Stop Sign Warranties", "Management Styles", "Solid Waste", "Mechanistic Pavement Design", "Storm Water Management", and "Public Relations". In fact, if you want to cover all the timely subjects, you may want to have two people attend, since many sessions will run concurrently.

In addition to the technical sessions, we have allocated some time for relaxation. Golf is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon and a get-acquainted party will be held on Wednesday Evening. Our annual banquet will be held on Thursday evening with dancing to follow. A spouses program is also planned for the three-day event.

The registration fee is $115 and $45 for spouses until May 1. After May 1, registration will be $ 140 and $45 for spouses. Rooms and golf are extra.

Registrations should be sent to George Swier, Engineering Department, Box 3157, Bloomington, IL 61701.

We hope your community will be represented at this educational fun-filled conference. •
