Northern Illinois University
Conducts IMC Institute and Academy

Northern Illinois University will host the Illinois Municipal Clerks Institute and Academy October 8-13, 1989. The Center for Governmental Studies in cooperation with the College of Continuing Education has planned another intensive institute for clerks interested in obtaining CMC designation.

The NRJ sponsored institute is a three year program. Clerks may enter the program at any point in the three year cycle. Sessions this year include: current issues in municipal government; ethics; municipal law; relationships between city and county; policy and administration; separate or intertwined; assessing public opinion; as well as others. Sessions will be coordinated by faculty and staff with local government personnel participating in many of the programs.

The academy is an advanced continuing education opportunity for clerks. Meeting this year October 11-13, the academy program offers three sessions. Day one will deal with the future of local government, examining such issues as the changing demographics of our cities and towns; the changes in technology affecting the workplace; the changing roles of cities, counties, and townships. The second day will offer a chance to hone public relations skills and also discuss some personal health related issues.

A closing session combining participants of both the institute and the academy will focus on a legislative update.

Institute registration fees will be $250. The academy fee is $200. Fees include all materials, continental breakfasts, lunches, and a banquet. Rooms are an additional $35 per night. All sessions take place in the Holmes Student Center on Northern Illinois' Campus. For further information contact: Carol B. Zar, Institute Director, 815/753-0927. •
