Ken Alderson —
Awarded Outstanding Staff Member

Ken Alderson

On July 25, 1989 the State League Directors Summer Workshop was held in Durango, Colorado. Each year State League Directors, from across the nation, use this occasion to provide recognition to a state league staff member for outstanding professional achievement. This recognition, known as the "State Municipal League Professional Achievement Award" was awarded this year to a staff member of the Illinois Municipal League, Mr. Kenneth A. Alderson, the IML Director of Administration.

Nominations for consideration of the award are entered nationwide by state league directors with a select committee making the determination of the final recipient.

Mr. Alderson's selection was based on a variety of considerations, of which three were: computerization of internal League operations project manager on the new League Headquarters Building and establishment of the Local Government Computer and Information Service (LOCIS) a service program of the League to provide computer hardware and software to its membership.

Mr. Alderson, who joined the League in 1972, has seen many changes in League operations and has been an instrumental part of League services to its members. In addition to internal office and personnel management he represents the League on environmental legislation, serves as a Gubernatorial appointee with Senate confirmation on the Economic and Technical Advisory Committee to the Illinois Pollution Control Board, along with a variety of other bodies having impact on Illinois municipal government.

Needless to say, Mr. Alderson is very proud to be the recipient of this prestigious award, as is the Illinois Municipal League proud to have a member of its staff receive the award. •
