Election 1990 . . . Election booths
By Thomas G. Fitzsimmons, Executive Director

It is important that you vote. Regardless of your political persuasion it is equally important that you talk to the candidates and determine their positions on matters that impact municipal government in Illinois.

In your conversations, or through the media make your feelings known as they relate to mandated costs imposed both in Washington and Springfield. It is very meritorious to impose programs on local government, whether it be environmental, pension increases or other public employee benefits, and at the same time insist on reduction of fiscal resources such as property tax, motor fuel tax distribution formula, sales tax and other imaginative restrictions.

It is the constant effort of local government officials to improve the quality of life, local economy and pride in their respective community.

Make sure the candidate of your choice hears from you and to the extent possible, get a commitment with a good understanding that you will be more comfortable in your vote knowing that you have sent the right person to Washington and Springfield.

"To go along does not always get along." You have a greater commitment to your constituency. They come first — they put you in office and they look to you as a leader.

Municipal government must remain at the front. This office stands ready to assist you. •
