Marianne Edwards

Municipal Clerks of Illinois announces Marianne Edwards, CMC/AAE is this year's recipient of The Ilion Crabel Municipal Clerk of The Year Award. The announcement was made at the Annual Meeting of the Association, held in DeKalb on October 10, 1990. Edwards was first appointed clerk in 1973. An active member of MCI, she has held the office of president, vice president, secretary, district director and has served on many, many committees.

Edwards has been involved with, and responsible for a number of projects:

For the design and purchase of the first municipal clerks banner;

The sale of 250 manuals during her tenure as manuals chairman;

She wrote three new chapters for the clerks manual and revised several others; and

Initiated a manual card index for future manuals chairmen.

Edwards has earned the designation of registered clerk, and has received recognition as a Certified Municipal Clerk and completed the requirements for the Academy of Advanced Education from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. Recently she was appointed as IIMC United States Membership Chairman for 1990-91, and has been an active participant in the IIMC Annual Conference since 1987.

Edwards has served as a mentor to newly elected clerks, and has contributed educationally by instructing at the MCI Institute and regional seminars. She initiated a records management program for all departments of her municipality; initiated a business registration program; and a property maintenance program, and Edwards is active in her community in the United Way, YWCA and in her church, and currently is serving as chairman of the 125th anniversary of her community.
