Round Lake P.D. adds new staff

Bradley C. Thompson has joined the Round Lake Area Park District as athletic supervisor. He was previously supervisor for youth and adult athletic programs for the Crystal Lake Park District.

Thompson, in charge of all youth and adult athletic programs in his new job, has a bachelor of science degree in recreation from Indiana University. He has also worked for the Cary Park District and Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department, Bloomington, Ind.

A new position with the Round Lake Area Park District, publications and promotions specialist, has been filled by Diana Kuyper.

Kuyper has 15 years of experience in newspaper and freelance writing and editing.

She will design special promotional material quarterly program brochures and host the park district's monthly cable television show.

Boubelik named lan-Oak Director

Jeff Boubelik, CLP, has been named as the new director of the Lan-Oak Park District in Lansing, Ill.

Boubelik has been the director of Parks and Recreation for the Dolton Park District for the past 11 years. Prior to that, he was director of the Hazel Crest Park District from 1973-78.

He received his bachelor of science degree from Northern Illinois University and master of science degree in leisure studies from University of Illinois.

Boubelik has been active in the South Suburan Park and Recreation Professional Association, Illinois Park and Recreation Association and is a member of the National Recreation and Park Association.

4th Annual Lake Celebration planned

The Urbana Park District will host a full day of food and fun at the Annual Lake Celebration on Sunday, June 3, from noon to 9 p.m. in Crystal Lake Park, Urbana.

Enjoy live music, great food, children's activities, or sand volleyball during the day. Cap it all off that night by watching a fireworks display sponsored by Busey Bank.

This event is free and open to the public.

New videotape service offers CEOs convenience

Earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in the convenience of your home or office through a new service offered by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).

Three CEU programs from NRPA's 1989 Congress are now available on videotape. They are: Economic Impact of Parks and Recreation, .3 CEUs; A New Approach to the Development of Computer-based MIS for Park and Recreation Departments, .3 CEUs and Controlling Liability Losses, .3 CEUs.

The programs are part of a 10-tape package featuring the latest information on leisure programming, impacts of substance abuse and insights for controlling liabilities.

In combination or alone, these videos can be useful resources in the libraries of park and recreation professionals, trainers and professors.

Each program is conducted under the auspices of NRPA's Professional Services Department and represents one of the most popular educational sessions held at the 1989 event. Among the non-CEU videos offered are: Reflections on a Good Public Image; Your Next Golf Course Can be Free; and Playground Challenges-Future Safety Standards.

The tapes are available for $29.95 each for NRPA members and $36 for nonmembers. The CEU packets, which include a written test and an explanation of the required written paper are $20 each. Postage and handling are $1 per tape.

The non-CEU programs available are: Power Programming--P.I.N. Way Super Events, Super Activities; The Economic Impacts of Parks and Recreation; Fifty-five and Over Sports; Evaluation TR: E.P.F.- -Essential, Possible; Controlling Liability Losses; and Playground Challenges-Future Safety. The list also includes: Reflections on a Good Public Image; A New Approach to the Development of Computer-Based MIS Park and Recreation Depts.; National Issue: The Impact of Substance Use on Parks and Recration; and Your Next Golf Course Can Be Free.

Include your name, telephone, agency, address, and NRPA membership number, if applicable, and quantity.
