FLYNN APPOINTS MULLINS TO LEADERSHIP POST
IN CONFERENCE OF MAYORS

Boston Mayor Raymond Flynn, newly elected President of The U.S. Conference of Mayors, announced recently that Palatine Mayor Rita Mullins would serve as Chair of the Conference's Standing Committee on Arts, Culture and Recreation for the next year.

In accepting the Presidency of the Conference of Mayors at the June 19 conclusion of the mayors' 59th annual meeting in San Diego, Flynn said that the nation's cities needed a "team of fighters." In announcing his choices for Conference leaders, Flynn said the organization had assembled "a group of Democrats and Republicans, from large cities and small cities, who are ready to stand up and fight for our agenda."

"Rita Mullins has been an active and energetic participant in the work of the Conference of Mayors," said Flynn. "I know that as the head of this committee, our cities will be heard from on all the quality of life issues."

Among the mayors chairing committees this year with Mullins are John Bullard of New Bedford, Michael White of Cleveland, and Norman Rice of Seattle. There are 10 committees charged with policy-making responsibility within the Conference of Mayors; they meet at least twice a year to determine the positions that the organization will take on the most pressing urban issues.

Mayor Mullins also serves on the U.S. Conference of Mayors Legislative Action Committee.
