INDIAN LAKES SANITARY SEWER

By MAYOR SAMUEL TENUTO, Bloomingdale, Illinois

The Indian Lakes area of the Village of Bloomingdale has been without a sanitary sewer collection system since this subdivision developed in the early 1960s. After almost 12 years of effort we are now going forward with sanitary sewers in this community of 450 homes with market values upwards of $500,000.

This is a Special Service Area project financed in part by the Village of Bloomingdale and in part by residents and offers sanitary sewer service to all of the lots within the Indian Lakes area. Indian Lakes area is bordered by the Indian Lakes Resort Hotel and Golf Course, an excellent area of our community.

All of the Trustees, working with our Engineering Consultants, Wight Consulting Engineers, Inc., 127 South Northwest Highway, Barrington, Illinois, and Village Administrator, Daniel C. Wennerholm, Director of Village Services and Village Engineer, Mike Marchi, and Director of Legal Affairs, Tom Howard, were able to put together a program that was attractive for both the residents and the Village of Bloomingdale.

The ultimate Indian Lakes project will have more than 30,000 linear feet of sanitary sewers and almost 15,000 linear feet of house service lines that will be hooked to the Village's wastewater treatment facility. The sewers range from 5 feet to 25 feet in depth, and will carry waste by gravity to the existing system.

Wight Consulting Engineers, Inc. was able to design a system with a minimum amount of disruption and is economical enough so that we can all be proud of the accomplishment. It is a major undertaking that will cost $3,000,000, and will disturb lawns, streets and obstruct local traffic for 10 months. It is worth it, and as it goes forward, we can expect even more enthusiasm from the residents since septic fields will be a thing of the past.

All of the Trustees have been very supportive of this program. •
