DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY
AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

This is a highly professional position responsible for directing the activities of Community and Economic Development, Environmental Planning, Housing, Community Television, Fire and Building Code Enforcement, and Facility Management. Individual will administer a departmental budget of approximately $8 million with 43 employees consisting of professional, technical, and clerical staff. Director reports directly to the City Manager, but has considerable independence in performing work responsibilities. Duties include providing support to City Council, citizen advisory boards, commissions and neighborhood organizations; oversees City's Urban Development and Growth Management Programs; and contact with public and private officials to develop and utilize various community resources. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports and the effectiveness of the program in accomplishing departmental goals and objectives. Salary is $53,556-$65,100 annually depending on experience, plus an excellent fringe benefit package. The City of Yakima is the retailing, banking and industrial center for Central Washington. The City has a population in excess of 58,000 and lies within an urban area of 121,000 plus people with an average cost of housing of $65,200. The City employs 600 persons with an annual operating budget of $87 million. The administrative Council/Manager form of government was adopted by a vote of the people in 1959. Minimum qualifications are BS/BA in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Organizational Development, Law, or related field with emphasis on administration, management, and economic development. Position requires five (5) years progressively responsible work in government and/or private industry involving economic and community development, land use/growth management, and experience in an expanding multi-cultural urban environment. VILLAGE PLANNER/ADMINISTRATOR

The Village of Wauconda (present population 6,400) located northwest of Chicago in Lake County, has created a new position of Village Planner/Administrator and is currently seeking applicants for the position. The position is appointed by the Village Mayor, who is elected by an at-large election along with six Village Trustees elected on staggered 4-year terms. Wauconda is a growing community with substantial new industrial, commercial, and residential areas being developed. Responsibilities will include overseeing daily operations of the Village including, but not limited to, finance and budgeting, public works, including municipal owned waterworks and sewerage system, building and zoning regulations, permits, Economic Development, and implementation of programs and policies as directed by the Mayor and Village Trustees. Minimum qualifications include a Bachelors Degree in Public Administration or closely related field with 3-5 years experience. Engineering Degree a plus. DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/
VILLAGE ENGINEER

The Village of Winnetka, Illinois, a north shore suburban community (16 miles from Chicago) is accepting applications for the position of Director of Public Works/Village Engineer. The position involves administrative responsibility for the operation and activities of the Public Works Department in a council-manager form of government for a suburban community with a long tradition of full and effective services. Departmental activities include engineering of streets and sewer maintenance and construction, refuse collection and disposal (including landfill), street and sewer operation and maintenance, planning, building code and zoning ordinance enforcement, and other community development activities. The department also provides staff assistance tor the Plan Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Design Review Board, Building Review Committee and the Landmark Preservation Commission. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.
