General funds

At the end of November the state's general funds balance was $102.572 million. The average daily available balance in November was $110.786 million.

Jobless rates

The national seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 7.2 percent in November from October's 7.4 percent. In Illinois the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 6.2 percent from 5.5 percent in October. Illinois' unemployment rate was below the national level for the fourth straight month.

In November the state's civilian work force consisted of 6.108 million people (11,000 more than in October). Of these, 5.729 million people were working (31,000 fewer than in October); 378,000 people were unemployed (41,000 more than in October).

Metro area unemployment rates

During October unemployment declined in all metro areas except Rockford where it rose, reflecting temporary furloughs of manufacturing workers. The Bloomington-Normal, Champaign-Urbana and Decatur metro areas had all-time high employment levels. The October unemployment rates (not seasonally adjusted) in the state's metro areas were:

Aurora-Elgin PMSA (Kane and Kendall counties), 5.3 percent (down 0.9 percent).
Bloomington-Normal MSA (McLean County), 3.3 percent (down 0.3 percent).
Champaign-Urbana-Rantoul MSA (Champaign County), 3.2 percent (down 0.4 percent).
Chicago PMSA (Cook, DuPage and McHenry counties), 5.4 percent (down 0.8 percent)
Davenport-Rock Island-Moline MSA, Illinois portion (Henry and Rock Island counties), 6.3 percent (down 1.3 percent).
Decatur MSA (Macon County), 6.3 percent (down 1.3 percent).
Joliet PMSA (Grundy and Will counties), 5.4 percent (down 0.9 percent).
Kankakee MSA (Kankakee County), 5.9 percent (down 1.1 percent).
Lake County PMSA, 3.3 percent (down 0.4 percent).
Peoria MSA (Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties), 5.0 percent (down 1.0 percent).
Rockford MSA (Boone and Winnebago counties), 7.3 percent (up 0.3 percent).
Springfield MSA (Menard and Sangamon counties), 3.8 percent (down 0.5 percent).
St. Louis MSA, Illinois portion (Clinton, Jersey, Madison, Monroe and St. Clair counties), 5.4 percent (down 1.1 percent).
