Health Care Decision Support Products, Health Care Cost Containment Council, 4500 S. Sixth Street Road, Suite 215, Springfield 62703-5118; tel. (217) 786-7001.

The Illinois Health Care Cost Containment Council (IHCCC) is mandated to collect and disseminate information on hospital costs and quality. While this information has been available in various machine readable formats since 1986, the council has now enhanced its products and services for a broad range of users. The products fall into two categories: Public Release and Controlled Release products (for which an application is required). The first category includes Public DataSet/2 (@ $l,500/qtr Tape) and Patient Origin DataSet/2 (@ $l,350/yr Tape); the second comprises Universal DataSet (@ $2,000/qtr) and Research Oriented DataSet/2 (@ $3,000/qtr). Custom Reports and DataSets are also available, as well as contracts for specialized services.

Other Reports

Community Area Health Inventory, Chicago Department of Health, 50 W. Washington, Rm. 228, Chicago 60602; tel. (312) 744-3862 (January 1993), 167pp.; $50 plus $3 shipping.

This report contains demographic and health status indicators for each of Chicago's 77 community areas, along with summary tables for the entire city. Data are arrayed on two facing pages for each area and highlight changes from 1980 to 1990; they include changes in population, age structure, income, birth and fertility rates, infant mortality, causes of death and reportable illnesses. The individual area maps show the location of major health providers and indicate the number of primary care physicians in the area. The department will also generate special reports based on a customer's choice of variables and geographic areas.
