HEALTH & BUILDING INSPECTOR

MANAGEMENT ANALYST

ENGINEERING ASSISTANT

The Village of Vernon Hills (population 18,000), located approximately 25 miles northwest of Chicago in Lake County, is seeking applicants with para-professional engineering experience for the review and inspection of construction projects; survey work; complaint investigation; and a variety of related field and office engineering assignments. Ideal candidate possesses the equivalent of an associates degree in civil engineering or related field and have considerable experience in construction inspection. CHIEF OF POLICE

The Village of Schaumburg is seeking a new Chief of Police to direct a full service CALEA accredited Police department with 137 sworn personnel, 103 civilian personnel, and an annual budget of $12.8 million. The current chief is retiring after 25 years of service. Schaumburg is a Council/Manager form of government with the Chief of Police appointed by the Village Manager with consent of the Village Board. Schaumburg is a thriving community of approximately 70,000 people located 8 miles west of O'Hare International Airport and approximately 40 miles northwest of the city of Chicago. The community is the base of the second largest concentration of retail, office, and commercial activity in the state of Illinois. Challenges facing the new Chief of Police include: maintaining a set of standards that have gained departmental recognition as one of the State's leading law enforcement organizations; expanding upon a team approach toward internal department management and continuous improvement; allocating resources within financial constraints to achieve an accountable balance of village ordinance enforcement, community policing, and regional inter-law-enforcement agency involvement; expanding on drug and gang prevention/enforcement efforts; and maintaining effective communications and relationships with other village administrators and the Village Board. The position requires a minimum of 7 years of police supervisory experience. A Bachelor's Degree in Police Science, Public Administration or a related field is required. Master's Degree is preferred. The successful applicant will have demonstrated exceptional management and leadership skills, effective community, public and employee relation skills, and a thorough knowledge of contemporary law enforcement approaches and operations. The salary range is $55,000 to $79,000 plus excellent benefits. Upon selection of the final candidate, residency in the Village of Schaumburg may be required as a condition of employment.

DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION

Village of Libertyville, IL (20,000). Salary Range: $50,392-$67,524. Hiring Range: $50,392-$52,912. Excellent Benefits. Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Management/ Public Administration or related field. Master's Degree and Certification as Leisure Professional (CLP) desirable. A minimum of 6-7 years in parks and recreation administration which should include supervisory experience. Specific experience in grant writing and capital improvement planning desired. Oversees 17 parks (500 plus acres) and coordinates 2,000 recreational programs. The department has an annual budget of over $1.8 million. DOWNTOWN REDEVELOPMENT PROPOSALS

The Village of Oak Park, Illinois, is seeking preliminary proposals for redevelopment of four land parcels in the near- west Chicago suburb's downtown area near Lake Street and Harlem Avenue. The request for proposals is part of a master plan for the area developed after Oak Park commissioned the Lakota Group to study its downtown. Results of the six-month study were presented in mid-May. The parcels for which Oak Park seeks development are: The southeast corner of Harlem Avenue and Ontario Street, a 1.3 acre area currently used as surface parking; 8,800 square feet on Marion Street north of Lake Street, adjacent to the southwest corner of Austin Gardens; 2.5 acres at the northeast corner of Harlem Avenue and North Boulevard, reaching north to Lake Street, made up of a village-owned parking lot and existing privately owned structures; A 40,270 square foot area in the middle of the 1100 block of Lake Street that contains three structures, one of which is vacant. Oak Park's objectives in asking for proposals, said the village's economic development manager Krista Grimm, include expansion of the local tax base and of the downtown's primary market area. The downtown area is a tax increment financing district. Grimm said Oak Park is prepared to offer incentives to developments that will substantially impact the area.

CIVIL ENGINEER I

The Village of Lombard (Pop. 39,000) is accepting resumes for the position of Civil Engineer I in the Private Engineering Services Division of the Department of Community Development. This is an entry level position for professional work of a technical nature. The position will involve plan review and approval, site inspections and project acceptance for all privately constructed improvements. Administration of various consulting engineering and geo-technical contracts, coordination of maps and plats, preparation of technical reports, responding to citizens complaints and representing the Village in conferences and public meetings are additional responsibilities of this position. The position reports to the Private Development Engineer. The salary range is $33,073 to $44,649 DOQ, plus a competitive benefits package and potential for wage increase based on merit system. To qualify, a candidate shall have a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, 0 to 3 years experience with an interest in municipal engineering, ability to perform plan review and prepare technical reports, knowledgeable in the use of desktop computers. The Village of Glen Ellyn, Illinois is seeking a Facilities Manager for the Glenbard Wastewater Authority which serves multiple jurisdictions.
