Complying With The Americans With Disabilities Act:
A Forum For Local Governments

The Illinois Commission on Intergovernmental Cooperation, in association with the Illinois Municipal League, Township Officials of Illinois, United Counties Council of Illinois, and the Illinois Association of County Officials, is sponsoring an educational conference to assist units of local government in understanding the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The conference is scheduled for Monday, November 13, 1995, at Brookens Auditorium at the University of Illinois at Springfield.

The U.S. Department of Justice maintains that, for many local governments, misinformation about the requirements of the ADA continues to exist, making voluntary compliance more confusing and burdensome than it need be. A representative of the U.S. Department of Justice, Disabilities Rights Section, will clarify issues related to providing access under Title II of the ADA. The afternoon session will feature a roundtable discussion with local government officials discussing their experiences in implementing the ADA and a question and answer session with the U.S. Department of Justice Representative.
