OSHA Voluntary Compliance Course Scheduled

The DeKalb Department of Public Works, the Illinois Municipal League and the Northern Illinois University College of Engineering and Engineering Technology are sponsoring a OSHA 30 Hour Voluntary Compliance Course May 13-17, 1996, in DeKalb.

This five-day course, to be held at Northern Illinois University's Holmer Student Center, is designed for people with responsibilities for the safety and health of employees from any type of general industry. The course is a comprehensive introduction to OSHA — the organization, regulations and interpretations.

Presenters will include safety specialists who have been trained and certified on the OSHA 501 trainer's course, have years of safety experience, have certified Industrial Hygienist certification or other certifications such as CSP and have demonstrated a high level of training performance. Guest speakers will include representatives from an OSHA regional office and the Illinois Consultation Service.

DCCA Workshops
The Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs is currently conducting a series of municipal workshops around the state which will continue through April. The workshops are designed to meet the particular interests of elected and appointed officials of smaller municipalities.

Sessions include information on revenue sources duties of officials, appropriation/budget procedures, management reports and how to calculate the financial impact upon citizens of new municipal projects. A recent survey of local governments indicates that these topics are of great interest to local officials.

Mayors and village presidents, clerks, treasurers, members of governing body and the administrative staff are urged to attend.

Fire Service Institute Training

A vertical rescue training course will be offered in Grayslake on April 13,14,20,21,27, and 28. The course, "Vertical Rescue I — Ropes and Rigging," is presented by the Illinois Fire Service Institute.

This course covers rope systems used in rescue. The physics and dynamics of rescue systems will be explored. Special consideration will be given to policies of standard - making agencies such as OSHA, ANSI, NFPA and others.

Subjects covered in the course will include:

• Rope construction and specifications

• Uses and specifications of related software and hardware

• Construction and operation of mechanical advantage systems

• Construction and operation of safety systems

• Construction of anchoring systems

• Care and packaging patients for vertical movement in litter systems

Course hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The fee for the one-day course is $125.00. To register or for more information, contact Greg Formica at (847)223-8960. •
