FROM THE EDITOR

Hello. I'm new here. It's great to be in this little spot in Illinois Parks & Recreation magazine. And it's even greater to come into the office each day and meet — at least by phone and e-mail — you, the IAPD and IPRA members. You are a hard-working, fun-loving bunch. But, in the parks, conservation and recreation field, what other sort of people should I have expected?

I've only been on the job for one issue, but let me tell you the secret of Illinois Parks & Recreation: It's your magazine. These pages certainly represent a team effort by the joint editorial committee and the IAPD and IPRA staffs. But really, you are the people who drive our efforts. Many of you contribute top-quality articles. And, better still, even more of you read them.

Since settling into this job, people have asked me whether I'd be making a lot of changes to the magazine. The answer is yes. And then again, the answer is no.

The IAPD is finishing up its celebration of its 75th anniversary. I've read a little of the history. Over time, whenever new people came aboard, the look and feel of the IAPD changed. You can see it in the pictures and in the back issues of this magazine. I'm sure the same can be said for the evolution of the IPRA.

So, yes, in the coming months you may notice some cosmetic changes to Illinois Parks & Recreation. I'd like it to look even better and to be even more useful than it is.

But, no, it won't change substantially. Or, what I mean to say, is that its substance will not change. This will still always be a reader-driven magazine.

I'd like you to consider my arrival as your renewed invitation to be a part of the Illinois Parks & Recreation team.
