To our readers: Did you miss the 106th Annual Meeting and heritage tours in the Illinois River Valley? It was a grand weekend full of history, geography, and new revelations about our state. You still can experience some of the magic in this issue of Illinois Heritage, as well as on the Society's website at www.historyillinois.org. Terri Cameron, a new member of our Advisory Board and former Director of Educational Resources and Technology with Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, has posted a "Slide Show" of our trips to LaSalle County, the Illinois Michigan Canal, the Cherry Mine Disaster site, the Mendota Railroad Museum, and Starved Rock. Log on and hang out.

In addition to meeting this year's

Annual Award winners, you'll visit the relatively new BRS Baseball Museum in Nokomis and the rather ancient Modoc Rock Shelter near Prairie du Rocher. You'll also get a lesson on the history of the Underground Railroad in Galesburg and Knox College, and meet Carbon-dale's Betsy S. Brown, winner of the Olive Foster "Teacher of the Year" Award.

The new members of the Society's Board of Directors and Advisory Board are also listed in this issue. Get to know them and share your common history. Who knows? Next year you might share a seat on the bus at the 107th Annual Meeting in Alton. Plan for it.

William Furry
Executive Director
