Frankfort Square Park District Wins the 2007 National Gold Medal Award

Of the eight agencies from Illinois that were selected as finalists, only the Frankfort Square Park District walked away with a 2007 National Park and Recreation Association Gold Medal Award. Frankfort Square took the honor in the Class V Division for agencies that serve a population of less than 25,000. The annual award is presented by the NRPA for excellence in park and recreation management.

The Frankfort Square Park District achieved finalist status for this award four times over the last five years and this year collected the gold during the annual NRPA Congress held in September in Indianapolis, Indiana. Accepting the award were Executive Director Jim Randall and Ken Blackburn, vice president of the board of commissioners.

The Gold Medal honors park and recreation agencies throughout the United States that demonstrate excellence in long-range planning, resource management, citizen support systems, environmental stewardship and program development. Each agency is judged on its ability to address the needs of those it serves, following a comprehensive assessment of agency goals and accomplishments.

Five agencies across the nation are named annually in five categories that are determined by the population served by the agency.

The Frankfort Square Park District brought home the Gold from Indianapolis.

The seven other Illinois finalists for 2007 were:

Class II (population 100.001 -250.000) Pleasure Driveway and Park District of Peoria

Class III (population 50,001 - 100,000) Arlington Heights Park District Bolingbrook Park District Hoffman Estates Park District

Class IV (population 25,001 - 50.000) Elmhurst Park District St. Charles Park District

Class V (population less than 25,000) Vernon Hills Park District
