REPORT OF THE OGLESBY UTILITY

By EDWARD HAND, City Clerk

Honorable Mayor and Commissioners, Oglesby, Illinois.

Sirs:

On April 1, 1958, the end of the city's sales year in the electricity department, new all-time records were again set. The city's collection or fiscal year does not end until April 30, 1958.

Total net billings this year were $214,117.24, compared to $198,745.50 last year, $143,745.51 five years ago, $96,385.93 ten years ago, and $47,168.04 twenty years ago.

Today we have 1550 electricity users, we had 1410 five years ago, 1201 ten years ago, and 945 twenty years ago. :

There are now 945 electric ranges connected to the city distribution system, compared to 921 at this time last year. Range saturation thus is 67.5%, compared to 67% last year. Electric water heaters, 50 gallons and larger, in use now total 528, compared to 501 last year.

January, 1958, total net billings of $20,000.84 for all classes of service established a new, all-time, single-month total high.

Average cost per KWH to the residential user was $.0249, compared to last year's $.0251. National average is now $.0256 according to the Edison Electric Institute.

Average KWHS used in the present billing year by the residential consumer amounted to 3,643, compared to last year's 3,439, the 3,146 of two years ago, and the present national average of 3,156.

Average annual residential electricity bill in Oglesby for the billing year just ended was $90.79 compared to last year's $86.48, the $79.19 of two years ago, and the present national average of $80.79. On average, therefore, an Oglesby family buys more electricity than an average American family.

For the billing year, residential KWHS sales increased from 4,729,225 to 5,136,849, or 8.6%. Commercial energy sales decreased from 1,356,997 to 1,335,883, or 1.5%. Power energy sales increased from 1,071,446 to 1,520,713, or 41.9%. Sharp increase in power sales and slight decrease in commercial sales are attributable to classifying water department usage in power category and to other re-classifications.

In the present year, net billings for residential electric usage were $128,026.28, compared to last year's $118,913.53, or a 7.6% dollar volume increase. Commercial class billings decreased from $47,836.50 to $47,049.12, or 1.6%. Power class net billings increased from $32,005.47 to $39,041.84, or 21.9%.

Total increase this year from last year in all classes of service was 11.6% expressed in KWHS and 7.73% in revenue.

Herewith is a tabulation of all classes of service sales for both 1957 and 1958:
