New Park facilities in Alton

Construction costs are unbearable for many Park and Recreation facilities. All indications are that they will continue to spiral.

The Alton Park and Recreation Commissions are attempting to hit this problem on the head by requesting the professional staff to come up with a cheaper method of constructing such things as washroom and recreation storage areas for two new playgrounds in Alton.

Director Jack Philbrick has presented a design for a low cost trailer until that measures 10' x 20' that will have a rustic exterior and interior of rough cedar or oak plus vandal proof fixtures such as water closets and lights. The estimated unit cost delivered will run between $4,000 to $5,000 and will adequately handle a summer playground activity area.

The units are expected to cut costs by approximately 60 per cent.

Many communities may desire a permanent trailer hookup so an alternate design may be achieved thru the use of vault closets, as well as the vandall proof type. However, vault units will not be used by the City of Alton.

For further information, contact Jack F. Philbrick, Director, Alton Park and Recreation Commissions, P. 0. Box 582. Alton, Illinois 62002.
