Joe Puttkammer is the new Superintendent of Maintenance for the Blue Island Park District. He was promoted from within the ranks having served the park district for many years.

He brings an attitude with him that reflects real determination in getting the job done. "On the real tough jobs" Joe says, "just give us a little more time and we will get the job done." He replaces Stan Biedenkof who retired recently.

Charles Ballard was appointed October 1, 1971, to the position of ranger in charge of White Pines State Park. Ballard takes this post with a degree from the University of Illinois, College of Agriculture with minors in Business and Horticulture. Ballard has served the last four years as Director of the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District. He joins a long list of other professionals who have joined the ranks of the Department of Conservation.

Richard I. Berner has been appointed as the new Ranger in charge of Beaver Dam State Park. His appointment was effective December 1, 1971.

Berner is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and holds a degree from Southern Illinois University with a major in Forestry and special emphasis on outdoor recreation and planning.

Edward R. Hauser has been appointed to serve a four year term on the College of Physical Education Advisory Committee, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The appointment was recently confirmed by the university's Board of Trustees.

Hauser is presently serving as President of the Elk Grove Park District, Elk Grove Village, Illinois.

Robert Gillikin, Director of Recreation for the Champaign Park District, received word recently that he has been selected as the first recipient of t he Garrett Eppley Honors Award.

This award, a financial grant, will cover tuition, accommodations, and supplies associated with attendance at the Great Lakes Park Training Institute and the Executive Development Program. These programs are sponsored by the National Recreation and Park Association, and the Departments of Park and Recreation Administration and Business Administration of Indiana University.
