Carl Fuerst Joins M&E

Bruce B. Everly, President of McFadzean and Everly, Limited in Winnetka, Illinois, announced on May 15, the appointment of Carl F. Fuerst to the position of Executive Vice President with the firm.

Fuerst, 43, comes to McFadzean and Everly from the National Recreation and Park Association where he served since 1969 as the Regional Director of N.R.P.A.'s North Central Region Service Center in Chicago, Illinois. In this capacity, Fuerst represented N.R.P.A. in eight North Central States (including Illinois) where he actively participated in over 350 park and recreation oriented conferences, seminars and workshops involving citizens, legislators, educators, Board members and professionals during the past three years.

Bruce Everly, in naming Fuerst as a principal in the firm, enthusiastically describes his expertise and accomplishments during his past 17 years in the park and recreation field. "His experiences and understanding of the park and recreation needs at the local, state and national level will complement the architectural, design and engineering resources of our firm and will indeed provide our clients with a unique and valuable service."

McFadzean and Everly, specializing for 38 years in the planning and design of park and recreation facilities, programs and resources concurrently announces an important new thrust in its services. Everly describes the effort, "As a response to the change and challenge of tomorrow's leisure needs, by expanding and developing our expertise in collaboration with the park and recreation client, that will provide him with dynamic and meaningful park and recreation resources for today's as well as tomorrow's communities."

Before joining the National Recreation and Park Association, Fuerst was Superintendent of Parks and Recreation in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. During his 14 years in this capacity the community developed a nationally acclaimed park and recreation system, financially supported by the electorate, and one in which the concept of providing parks and recreation at a neighborhood level became a reality and the community's most vital asset. The Park and Recreation Department was a recipient of the National Sports Foundation Gold Medal Finalist Award for excellency in the field of parks and recreation management. Fuerst has also been named by the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association to its meritorious service, distinguished service and lifetime membership awards. A member of the National Recreation and Park Association, he also holds an Active Administrator Membership in the Illinois Park and Recreation Society.

"The potential of matching our park and recreation resources with the leisure needs of our communities through the local park and recreation system is urgently needed and is the challenge accepted by all of us at McFadzean and Everly," states Fuerst.

An Ohioan by birth, Fuerst is a graduate of Ohio State University and his wife, Joyce; daughter, Julie; and sons, David and Jeffrey, live at Mt. Prospect, Illinois.

Craig Sensor

Craig C. Sensor has been appointed Director of Planning for the St. Charles Park District. Craig is a recent graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in Landscape Architecture.

He will be responsible for the development of parks and will be concerned with site planning and design guided by the district's accepted master plan. Other duties will include preparation of federal programs for aid in finding open space development.


Rudy Nelson has been appointed to the position of Recreation Supervisor for the Rolling Meadows Park District. He is a recent graduate of the University of Illinois and has a degree in secondary education.

Rudy comes to Rolling Meadows with a variety of program experiences from the Westchester Park District where he worked as a playground director, sport specialist and part time in the maintenance department.


Howard E. Weaver, professor of recreation and park administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has received the Fellow Award of the Association of Interpretive Naturalists.

The award recognized Weaver's "achievement of excellence in the field of interpretation of our natural environment and numerous contributions made to the association." It was presented at Callaway Gardens, Pine Mountain, Ga., Saturday, April 8th.

In 1960, Weaver co-founded the association for naturalists who supervise educational programs such as nature walks, park exhibits and lectures. He chaired its constitution and by-laws committee, drafted its code of ethics during his vice presidency from 1961 to 1963 and served as president from 1963 to 1965.

Now Weaver is serving another term as a member of the association's board of directors. He is widely recognized as an authority on the history of park interpretive programs.
